Renting a studio for the first time is confusing: every listing looks good, and the differences only show up on shoot day. After hosting creators, photographers, and podcasters at our Mississauga studio, these are the seven things we would check before booking anywhere — including with us.

Photography studio rental in Mississauga — professional lighting setup with strobes, umbrellas and stools in a white studio

1. Is the lighting actually included?

Some studios advertise a low hourly rate, then charge extra for lights, triggers, or backdrops. Ask one question before booking: “What equipment is included in the rate?” At Shot By KM, professional lighting, styled sets, and backdrops are included — the rate you see is the rate you pay.

2. How big is it, really?

Square footage alone does not tell you if your shoot fits. A 135 sq ft room (about 9×15 ft) is plenty for portraits, headshots, product photography, podcasts, and content filming — and honest studios will tell you their capacity. Ours fits up to 10 people.

3. What is the total price — including the minimum?

Watch for 2–4 hour minimums and add-on fees. A fair small-studio rate in the GTA is roughly $50–$75/hour with equipment included. Our blocks are simple: $60 for 1 hour, $120 for 2 hours, $200 for 4 hours, and $400 for a full day — and the full day costs less than booking the same hours one by one.

4. Do the hours match your life?

Most creators do not shoot 9-to-5. If you film after work or on weekends, look for appointment-based booking. Shot By KM is bookable 24/7, by appointment — including late-night sessions.

5. Parking and load-in

Free on-site parking sounds minor until you are carrying lights, props, and wardrobe across a paid lot. Our studio sits in a plaza at 1515 Britannia Road East, Mississauga, with free parking right outside.

6. Is the space private during your slot?

Shared studios mean strangers walking through your shoot. An appointment-only, single-room rental means the space is yours for the booking — no interruptions, no audience.

7. Can you bring your own photographer or crew?

A true studio rental lets you run your own shoot: you bring your photographer, videographer, or crew, and the studio provides the space and equipment. That is exactly how Shot By KM works.
